Reginald was born and raised in Chicago, Resided at the Robert Tayor project development until the family purchased home in Maple Park just inside the city limits. Reginald P Helm, a second-generation artist after his dad, Reginald Helm Sr, made his living as an artist. Reginald Preston Helm, also known as “Lil Reggie” as Reginald Sr was obviously “Big Reggie”, would assist his dad in building frames and loading the station wagon to attend art shows. Only eight years old at the time, Lil Reggie learned what it would take to set up and present dads art in a manner that showcased his entire collection. Often Reginald Sr would sell out his entire show of art and come home with a huge amount of money and a empty trunk. In 1972 at one particular show, one patron browsed around and approached Reginald Sr to purchase two of his paintings. Reginald Sr told the gentleman that the paintings cost two hundred dollars each totaling four hundred dollars. The patron asked him if he could change a five-hundred-dollar bill. Lil Reggie thought the bill was faked as he had never laid eyes on a twenty-dollar bill, let alone a five-hundred-dollar bill. Lil Reggie later learned that up until 1971 that five hundred and even one-thousand-dollar bills were still in circulation. President Nixon ordered the law to stop printing anything higher than a one-hundred-dollar bill. Anyway, the patron decided to pay the amount of five hundred as Reginald Sr did not have change for a hundred yet.
Art is life and experience coupled with creativity and voice. Reginald P. Helm has named his new line “Sire’s Art”. Under the founded name of Sire’s Art, he presents to you his body of work to date.
